Getting married

Oops. MDG blogging day is SEPTEMBER 25, not August. (Thanks, Raisin!) Oh well. Can't seem to keep any dates straight lately! (See two posts ago...)

I've been lying awake for two hours. I wish I could sleep, because I was up at 5:30am yesterday to drive in for the Hyde Park Farmers' Market to buy flowers with my aunt. Oh well. Probably won't sleep much tonight either!

It is both unbelievable that we're getting married tomorrow -- me? married? -- and it seems totally unremarkable -- like, well, of course we're doing this. The dress is hanging on the closet door in a garment bag. The rings are in a bag in the closet. Adam's parents and Aunt Becky will cook all the food today. My aunt Beth and dear friend Monica will make corsages and lapel flowers and table bouquets. My dear friend Shuli is bringing dozens of bright, polyester saris to cover the tables and decorate the parish hall. And just so many people are coming to join us -- that's really the best part: getting married, and sharing it with all these people we love. What a crazy thing. (Although I confess, wearing my grandmother's long, heavy satin dress is pretty great, too.)

Having so much help around here is sooooo great. But staying in Adam's student house without air conditioning is a challenge. It's like a big castle, which is charming in winter and stifling in summer. But Sunday night, we'll be in cool and breezy northern Minnesota! On the shores of Lake Superior, which will probably be too cold to swim in, but right now, that all sounds pretty nice. The hotel has free canoes for guests, too.

I'll be back in town to preach the following Sunday, and I think it will all seem like a rush of life just blew by. But I'll be pretty happy, I think. :)
