Is this totally crazy? I had to swallow hard to even take a picture of it. But I'm hoping that taking the photo, posting it, and writing about it, will exorcize some of my crazy terror. Any other Seabury people have stories about this thing? Maybe sometime before June I'll get someone else to go down there with me and have another look. I'll let you know.

Heidi, It's probably an ash cleanout from an upstairs fireplace. In old fireplaces there is a tiltable brick in the back where you pushed all the ash. It then fell into a box in the basement foundation of the chimney. You would then periodically clean it out through the little door.
ReplyDeleteCourt.
You know, in the library basement there's a room with a little half-doorway into the undercroft of the chapel. And in there... lies Charles Palmerston Anderson!
ReplyDeleteHis body.
If I ever make it up there again, Heidi, I will brave the scary cupboard with you!
ReplyDeleteif it is full of ash, what a cool lenten discovery!
ReplyDeleteI've never seen this. You're going to have to show me where it is. . . if you dare!
